A LITTLE DIFFERENT
THEATRE SHOWREELS
Professionally written, directed and filmed two- to three-minute theatre scenes, created specifically around two actors and the qualities they want to showcase. Each scene is developed for the stage rather than adapted from existing film or television material, then professionally captured with multi-camera coverage and individual sound.
Actors can choose between a Friday live-audience Showreel Showcase slot, or a Saturday closed recording session without an audience.
Why it's A Little Different
Most professionally produced showreel scenes are designed primarily to demonstrate screen acting. ALD Theatre Showreels are created specifically to showcase actors as theatre performers.
Each pair begins by telling us what they want the scene to achieve: the kinds of characters, relationships, performance qualities and casting territory they want to explore. An ALD writer then creates an original scene around those ingredients.
The director takes that material and develops it as a piece of theatre, using performance, staging, lighting and the space itself to give the scene a distinctive theatrical identity.
The result is not simply a recording of a stage production from the back of an auditorium. Professional close coverage, individual sound and editing keep the actor's performance front and centre while retaining the qualities of a genuine theatrical performance.
Actors who want the energy of a live room can choose a slot during the ALD Friday Showreel Showcase. Those who prefer to work without an audience can choose a Saturday recording session.
How it works

Two actors book together, either as an existing pair or after finding one another through ALD’s scene-partner matching service.

Each actor completes an individual brief explaining what they want the finished scene to showcase.

The pair then completes a shared brief covering areas such as genre, relationship, tone, theatrical style and practical preferences.

An ALD writer develops an original two- to three-minute scene specifically for the two performers.

The actors rehearse and develop the material with the director in the theatre.

On Friday, the scenes are presented as part of the ALD Showreel Showcase, with each piece performed twice before an audience.

On Saturday, showreel scenes are recorded without an audience for actors who prefer a closed performance environment.

Professional multi-camera filming and individual sound capture are used throughout, with additional rehearsal coverage available where useful.

The finished scene is edited and supplied to both actors for use in their professional showreels and casting profiles.
The Live Audience
The live audience is an option, rather than a requirement.
Fridays culminate in the ALD Showreel Showcase: five original scenes performed before an audience and professionally captured for the actors’ showreels.
The priority remains the quality of the finished footage, so each scene is performed twice in two blocks of five pieces. Audience members may leave after the first block if necessary, although they are encouraged to stay and give the actors the benefit of a consistent live room for both performances.
For actors who would rather work without an audience, Saturday provides a closed recording environment.
This means the theatrical character of the footage does not depend on audience participation. The theatre, writing, direction, staging and performance remain at the centre of both formats.
