The ALD Showreel Showcase brings together five original two- to three-minute scenes, each written for a pair of actors and developed specifically for the stage. It’s a compact hour of new writing, performance and theatrical craft, professionally filmed live for the actors.
Why it's A Little Different
This is our one offering that isn't "A Little Different". This is a completely unique theatre experience, unavailable anywhere else!
Each piece is written specifically for two actors, then rehearsed and directed as theatre before being professionally filmed for their showreels. These aren’t extracts from existing productions, and they aren’t conventional screen showreel scenes.
For the audience, that means five completely different short scenes in one sitting. Different performers, different characters, different tones and different theatrical ideas. In turn, the audience is also part of what makes the performance genuinely live: reacting in the room while the actors perform and the cameras capture the work.
How it works

Five original two- to three-minute scenes are created for five pairs of actors.

Each scene is rehearsed and directed as a piece of theatre.

The scenes are staged using theatrical lighting, movement and performance choices.

At the end of the rehearsal day, the five scenes are presented as a one-hour Showreel Showcase.

Each block of five scenes is performed twice.

A professional three-camera team captures the performances with close coverage and individual sound.

The performances take place in front of a small, live audience.

The final footage is edited into professional theatre showreel material for the actors.
The Live Audience
The priority of the Showreel Showcase is always the actors’ finished showreel material. Therefore, each scene is performed twice, providing both the performers and the camera crew with a safety net.
To accommodate this, the Showreel Showcase is presented in two 30-minute blocks of the five pieces. The first block gives audiences the full range of scenes, performers and styles. The second time through gives the actors and filming team a second opportunity to capture the strongest possible version of each performance.
We appreciate audience members may only want to see each piece once, so they are welcome to leave if they so wish after the first block of performances is complete. However, they are strongly encouraged to stay for both: a live audience brings an energy and responsiveness that can’t be recreated in an empty room, and your presence helps the actors perform the scenes as theatre rather than simply as filmed material.
For comedy in particular, genuine audience response can become part of the atmosphere of the final footage. More broadly, staying for the second block gives the performers the benefit of a consistent room while they refine and repeat the work.
